5 Steps To Success With Social Bookmarking
1. Write Something which is currently of Interest to Other People
If no one cares about your content even though you may have the best information on the topic, no one will have any interest in what you are saying.
For example you may have the best information on how to make and decorate a snowman but if you publish it in the middle of the summer you will not have much interest.
If there is no one interested in what you are writing about, you will not get read much or get picked up socially.
If you have written something that others like and are interested in you will go viral.
2. Start off using Twitter
Those who have never used the service overlook twitter. If you’ve haven’t tried Twitter why not give it a go.
You can follow what others are doing and allow others to follow you. Ideally pick people to follow who are in your own market. You can sign up free at www.twitter.com
3. Tell Your Friends on Facebook
Do you have a Facebook presence? If not sign up for one at www.facebook.com again it is free. If you then ask all your Twitter followers to become your Facebook friends they in turn may bring loads more people to become your Facebook friends.
You can also add a facebook fan page if you wish. From 1st October 2011 facebook in changing the rules for pages along with more changes to the look of the faacebook site. Some people like the changes and others don’t.
4. Use The Social Bookmarking Sites
In this I mean sites like Stumble Upon www.stumbleupon.com Digg www.digg.com Blog Catalogue www.blogcatalog.com My Blog Log www.mybloglog.com Etc.
These can give you the biggest source of traffic to your blog or website and will continue to drive users to it. If you are promoting anything web based spreading the word via the social bookmarks is essential.
5. Share Your New Post With Like Minded People
If you have written something that people would like to read make sure that you inform them of it. E.g. A Tweet for this post could be “New post about Social Bookmarking and how to go Viral go to www.richardmoloneyblog.com for details.”
If You Want Your Site To Go Viral Just Follow The 5 Steps Above
There are probably many more ways to spread the word but I haven’t learnt them yet. If any readers wish to comment and add more detail then please do.
You can outsource the running of the above social sites but be careful that you are 100% happy with the posts posted as it is YOUR reputation on the line not the person you outsourced to.
I hope this is helpful to you all.
Your comments are always welcome and I look forward to seeing them.
Richard

Hi Richard,
Those 5 tips are handy.
Especially since Google puts more emphasis on off-site links than keywords on your site/blog. I try to remember to also use keywords in my backlinks.
Keep writing!

Hi Louise
Thanks for the comment, I have no intention of quitting and will do my best to keep posting relevant information posts here.
If there is anything you would like me to post about just let me know.
Richard
Hi Richard
My Facebook page is a disaster, all the ‘business’ links go to my personal page! Just joined Twitter so will keep an eye on how things go. Got all sorts of offers to ‘follow’ me but ignored most of them.
Dee
Hi Dee
I have a facebook page first set up when there were no fan pages or anything except a personal page. I don’t use it much but every time I publish a post here a summary is posted on my facebook page and my twitter page. To have a seperate business page you have to sign up for a new account using a different name and email address as facebook only allows you to have one account. If they catch you with more than one account they disable all your pages and if they let you back you start from zero again.
They are changing quite a lot of the way facebook operates at present and some of the changes I and others don’t like.
I followed you on your twitter page. Twitter is not as good as it used to be for driving traffic.
Hi Richard
These are 5 nice basic but must tips.
I would just like to add one more in your list ( if you don’t mind, I hope you don’t) and that is TIMING.
I think timing is a very important factor for your social bookmarking campaign for if you are posting your link when none of your followers or fans are active, you would get nothing.
Facebook and Twitter both are great source of traffic if used wisely.
Daniel
Hi Daniel
I have approved your comment, even though Akismet marked it as spam, as you have raised something I hadn’t thought about.
Yes if you post to Twitter or Facebook and none of your followers are on there at the time you may get Zero or very little response from the posting.
The only difficulty I can think of is that if you have followers all over the world then posting to suit one area will not suit another area and finding out where all your followers are cqan also be difficult.
I will look into this aspect and if needs be modify the post or do another one about timing on its own.
Richard
